Welcome to the first edition of IEAMail, the topical monthly E-newsletter published by the Institute of Educational Assessors (IEA).

The Institute of Educational Assessors is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that has been set-up to improve the quality of assessment for learners by improving the knowledge, skills and capability of those involved in educational assessment.

Members include everyone involved in assessment, from individuals with an interest in or responsibility for assessment in primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, universities, training centres, and other educational organisations to senior examiners, markers and moderators.

Institute News - IEA applies for Royal Charter

The IEA is consulting on proposals to apply for a Royal Charter, and if successful, this will mean the organisation will gain Chartered status - thereby becoming the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors. A Royal Charter would also provide members with the opportunity to apply for Chartered Assessor status, subject to qualifying criteria.

Educational assessors get a great deal of satisfaction from their work. However, on occasion individuals can feel isolated. The IEA aims to develop a virtual assessment community, capable of providing a voice and support for those involved in educational assessment.

Assessment News - Raise Online

As part of the New Relationship with Schools programme, Ofsted and the DfES are working together to streamline the provision of data analysis to schools by merging the Performance and Assessment Reports (the PANDA) with the Pupil Achievement Tracker (PAT). The new product will be known as RAISEonline (Reporting and Analysis for Improvement through School self-Evaluation). RAISEonline will provide headteachers, teachers, LAs, School Improvement Partners (SIPs) and inspectors with a wide range of analytical information from one convenient source as well as providing schools with a tool for reviewing their performance data in greater depth as part of their self evaluation and target setting.

If you receive payment for work done that has not had both tax and National Insurance deducted, you must register with the Inland Revenue as self-employed within 6 weeks of starting the work. Assessment News - And Finally....

Hanoi - More than 20 students paid up to £1,700 each for wired wigs and shirts to cheat in exams. Vietnamese police confiscated 50 mobile phones, 60 earphones, 150 sim cards, 8 shirts and 5 wigs. About 10 per cent of students get into university.
