IEA Summer Assessment Conference
New - IEA Summer Assessment Conference The Institute of Educational Assessors (IEA) is pleased to announce the dates for the National Assessment summer conference on Standards in Assessment and E-assessment. The IEA will be hosting the 2-day conference, to be held in London at the Novotel Euston on 3rd and 4th May 2007. The conferences will provide you with an ideal opportunity to hear first hand about the key events shaping the education and assessment community over the forthcoming year including the 14-19 white paper and specialised Diplomas, the introduction of Progress Checks in schools in the autumn of 2007 as well as issues surrounding the practical implementation of e-assessment in your school or college. Along with keynote sessions, delegates will also be given an opportunity to attend a series of seminars on the latest thinking on assessment hosted by leading organisations such as AQA, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority, Cambridge Assessment, the National Assessment Agency and NFER. Institute News - CEA Consultation Background Between April 2006 and January 2007 the Institute of Educational Assessors (IEA) held consultation sessions on the concept of Chartered Educational Assessor (CEA). Consultations were held with teachers, examiners, awarding bodies, teacher associations and trade unions and other educational stakeholders. In total 61 people were consulted. Of these, 49 people were representing 18 educational organisations and 12 were teachers and external examiners invited by the IEA to participate in two CEA development groups.

Institute News - The Examination Process Explained The IEA has outlined the exam process starting from the setting of exam policies and examinations to the remarking and appeals procedures. Stage 1 - Setting Policy The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) has ultimate responsibility for the nature and direction of the English education system, including the curriculum of study and examination process. It is the DfES that develops the policies and white papers that are implemented by the regulatory authorities and awarding bodies, shaping the experiences of every student, teacher and educational assessor in England.
Student News - Student Brochure The IEA has developed a new student brochure that summarises information about the IEA, as well as the benefits of joining. This has now been made available and can be downloaded in either HTML or PDF formats.
Assessment News - Assessment Tools for Teachers Teacher assessment activities are available for art and design, design and technology and history at key stages 1 to 3, and for ICT and Geography at key stages 1 and 2. This new initiative from QCA illustrates assessment as an integral part of teaching and learning across the key stages.
NAA Assessment News - Key Stage Test Contract The National Assessment Agency has announced that ETS Global BV has been awarded a five-year contract to supply test operation services from 2008 to 2012. The contract, worth £156 million over the contract period, covers key stages 1, 2 and 3 and Year 7 progress tests.
NAA Assessment News - Examiner Recruitment Campaign Since 2004 the NAA has worked collaboratively with the awarding bodies AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC/CBAC to encourage teachers and other education professionals to consider becoming an examiner, moderator or marker. During the first few months of 2007 the campaign to recruit examiners, moderators and markers is focusing on English, history and religious studies. CPD - Events and Training Course Calendar Each month the IEA communicates educational assessment focused events and training courses that are taking place around the UK. The e-Assessment Question 8th and 9th March 2007 (£297.75 per day) run by Assessment Tomorrow (£205.62 per day for IEA members). The Education Show The IEA will be exhibiting for the third year running at the Education Show, on the 22nd - 24th March 2007 at the NEC Birmingham. IEA members are entitled to free tickets to the show, to obtain these please email info@ioea.org.uk stating your name and membership number. We are also taking bookings from members who would like the opportunity to speak with an IEA representative, you can also pop along and speak with us, we can be found at stand G82. Higher Education Academy's HE in FE 'Assessment - National Events 2007'. 30th March - Brighton and Hove College These one-day events are intended for HE in FE lecturers and managers to learn about the latest developments in assessment, a theme defined in the QAA Handbook for Integrated Quality and Enhancement Review (IQER) as "... the element of higher education most in need of development in reviews at the subject level". Assessment News - And Finally... One lucky IEA member who had misplaced his wallet was surprised to be contacted by the Police who then informed the individual concerned that he had been identified by his IEA membership card. The moral of the story? Always keep your IEA membership card about your person.
