Institute News - IEA congratulates students, teachers and assessors

The Institute congratulates students, teachers, and the assessors of this year's qualifications for the hard work and earnest endeavour exercised in such a professional manner to achieve overall outstandingly successful results. 'The continuous improvement over the years is a true reflection of the achievements of our young people and what they are capable of, and no doubt that high standard of achievement will be maintained this year,' says Kathleen Tattersall, Chair of the newly-formed Institute.

Institute News - IEA leads the way in protecting members against potential legal action

Whilst examiners and awarding bodies may condemn the growing litigation culture no one is seemingly immune from legal action. Recent issues faced by an awarding body over unmarked exam scripts, as reported in the Times Online, suggest that one awarding body is allegedly not ruling out legal action against an examiner who failed to fulfil marking duties.

The need for adequate protection has probably never been more appropriate. To protect the interests of members the IEA has partnered with Endsleigh Business Insurance Services to offer access to Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Assessment News - And Finally.... Cheaters never prosper.

Guardian - September 10th 2006

One of Britain's newest universities has found more than 200 students guilty of cheating after it launched a crackdown on what university officials admit is one of the biggest problems they face.

Using a computer program to catch students trying to pass off others' work as their own - often simply 'cut-and-pasted' from the internet - Coventry University discovered that 237 students had broken the rules. As a result, seven were expelled from the university, while another 12 cases are pending.
