Ofqual Enquiry

As part of its enquiry into the exam errors this summer, the CIEA was asked to identify any improvements necessary in awarding organisation's procedures and to consider the arrangements for risk management and redress that should be used in the future and any implications for the regulatory arrangements to hold awarding organisations most effectively to account. Training and Qualifications

All of the packages we offer can be tailored to your centre's needs. It may be more cost-efficient, for example, to join with another school or college to create a larger audience. Or perhaps your school or college has twilight insets where we could deliver training in smaller units. We know that such training will always add value: to teaching and learning and to the improved results that stem directly from an understanding of the assessment process.

The training packages we offer are many and varied:

Chartered Educational Assessor Training. The role of the CEA is to quality assure the assessment processes that a school, college or workplace uses. The training involves a two day workshop in which the delegates are taken through the key principles of assessment. Delegates move on to work on individual  projects of their own choice leading to a submission of a portfolio of evidence. To check the details and learn how to apply  read more.

General Assessment Skills Training. This course is for those delegates, teachers, lecturers, trainers or workplace assessors who have some knowledge or experience of assessment procedures, but would like a more thorough understanding of good assessment practice.  On the course you will learn the basic principles of good assessment practice and how to put these into effect for the benefit of your learners. To check the details and learn how to apply read more.

Assessment skills for Managers. This course is for those responsible for quality assuring the assessment practices of other members of staff within their own departments or across a number of centres. On this course you will learn how to quality assure the assessment practices of others, how to analyse data and use it to help your staff to assess more effectively. To check the details and learn how to apply read more.

Oral Language Modifier (OLM)TrainingThis course is for those people who have a responsibility to support a candidate who experiences language difficulties in General Qualifications. It is also suitable for those who are responsible for ensuring that candidates receive all the help they need to satisfactorily attempt a public examination despite having language difficulties. Our OLM training has been updated to include the latest regulatory information and allows delegates to practise the skills that this role requires. Assessment Consultancy Services. This can be used to develop bespoke training for your institution. You may, for example, wish to request training in how to standardise and moderate the new English creative writing test at Key Stage 2 which will be assessed and moderated by classroom teachers in 2012. To ensure your assessments are robust and reliable, contact us to design a course for you and your colleagues. Read more.

In the September edition of Make the Grade, there is an in-depth interview with Glenys Stacey, the new head of Ofqual. As she was previously in charge of the government department Animal Health, which dealt successfully with the 2001 foot-and-mouth outbreak, members will be interested to find out how she will approach those very different beasts, the awarding organisations.  To read the initial article go to the following link:
