Change and Stability in Education Assessment: an Oxymoron ?
A summary of Alina von Davier's Keynote speech
- It is important to look at what the assessment is trying to achieve.
- An assessment should be constructed to support a primary use.
- When changing a test make sure it does not impact on pupils achievment
- Many factors have to be taken into account when looking at new assessment:
- Appropriate training
- Necessary resources (appropriate software)
- Avoidance of any discrimination
- A change in demographics
- Interpretation of the results
- Does the scale need to be adapted / changed ?
- Are the tests reliable ?
COMMUNICATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY ARE ESSENTIAL
- We need to ensure that assessments are fair and accurate.
- Fit for purpose ? Is the test appropriate for what is being measured ?
