Assistant principal examiner
Role
If the marking team for an externally assessed component is so large that there are too many team leaders for the principal examiner to monitor effectively, one or more assistant principal examiners are appointed. They assist the principal examiner by supervising some of the team leaders. Assistant principal examiners are responsible to the principal examiner for the quality of their own marking and for the work they carry out in order to monitor their teams of team leaders. Assistant principal examiners may also assist principal examiners in other aspects of their work, for example in finalising the mark scheme before the standardisation meeting or in taking the lead in part of the standardisation meeting for the component.
Qualifications
Assistant principal examiners are usually senior examiners with several years of experience as a team leader.
