Checker
The QCA Code of Practice requires that examinations processing should include checks that all marks have been accurately calculated, recorded and transcribed. Some awarding bodies carry out the necessary checks on the awarding body premises - other awarding bodies require each examiner or marker to appoint a checker, who is usually a friend or family member. Final responsibility for the accuracy of all marks always rests with the examiner concerned.
Role
Checkers must ensure that the examiner has marked all appropriate questions and sub-sections. They must check that total marks have been calculated correctly and that the total mark has been recorded correctly on the front of each candidate's script. They must then ensure that this total mark has been transferred accurately to the examiner's mark sheet. They should also check that any absences or missing scripts have been correctly recorded.
