Team leader - examiner

Role

If the examining team for an externally marked component is too large for all the assistant examiners to be monitored by the principal examiner, one or more team leaders are appointed to share this responsibility with the principal examiner. Team leaders supervise a team of examiners, providing feedback on the quality of their marking and ensuring that they observe the awarding body's administrative procedures and deadlines. Team leaders are responsible to the principal examiner (or to an assistant principal examiner where appropriate) for the quality of their own marking and also for the work they carry out in order to monitor their teams of assistant examiners. Team leaders usually assist the principal examiner to finalise the mark scheme to be used at the standardisation meeting for the component.

Qualifications

Team leaders are usually examiners with several years of experience in marking at the appropriate level.
