Steps 10, 11 and 12
These steps will help you to set in place the processes to be adopted by the institution as a whole. The first needs the Senior Management Team to accept the policy and its procedures. In other words, to accept the policy and put in place a way to monitor (step11) and evaluate (step12) the process. The Senior Managers must then put it to the board for formal approval. The policy and the associated procedures can then be communicated to other stakeholders, such as parents, employers, governors and linked institutions.
Ratification
The next step is to ratify the statements. This needs to be done by the Headteacher, Principal or CEO. It must also have buy-in from the other stakeholders, such as governors. They all need to sign up to the sets of procedures that are outlined.
Monitoring
Within the procedures, there needs to be a an element of monitoring that can be carried out at subject or departmental level as part of the "business as usual" items on an agenda at Departmental or SMT meetings, measuring the impact that the procedures are having on both the teaching staff and on levels of achievement or attainment amongst learners. This is in effect Step 11.
Evaluation
By the end of the first year, there needs to be an evaluation process which must take into account the criteria set out in the first meeting, when the scope of the process was agreed.
- Have these procedures fulfilled the original criteria?
- Have these criteria been met wholly or only partially?
- What has constituted success?
- What further work needs to be done?
- What has been the impact upon the staff?
- Are there any opportunities for CPD?
- What has been the impact upon the learners in the institution?
