CIEA 3rd National Assessment Conference
We are delighted to announce that Sarah McCarthy-Fry the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Schools and Learners will be speaking at our National Assessment Conference on the 6th May 2009.

Assessment for Learning - Quality standards online tool for schools

Last month we communicated with you our new online Assessment for Learning tool which has been developed with the DCSF to be used by schools to assess how the implementation of Assessing Pupils' Progress (APP) is benefiting your centre.
If you have not had the opportunity to use the tool we would like to encourage you to do so as the feedback that it generates will help benefit both your centre and the learner.
If you have used this tool, has it provided you with the necessary information for you to be able to assess APP within your centre?

Liberal Democrats - Support a CEA in every school
|

Not surprisingly the 2007/08 Ofsted Annual Report places increased emphasis on educational assessment. The report sees educational assessment referred to some 97 times (compared with 77 times in the 2006/07 report) with Her Majesty's Chief Inspector, Christine Gilbert outlining (yet again) that assessment is a key component of good teaching and learning.Read more...

CEA training - Glasgow

Learning and Teaching Scotland (LTS) asked the CIEA to deliver a CEA training and assessment programme to a number of local authority and LTS officers from Scotland.
The process was repeated with Head Teachers and Deputy Heads at the Premier Inn on March 3rd and 4th.The event took place at the Radisson hotel, Glasgow on February 12th and 13th.Read more...

Results from 'Your March Call to Action'
Earlier this month we invited you to give us your views on the future of assessment.
We asked you whether or not teacher assessment is the best solution for replacing national curriculum tests and whether your centre has the resources and skills to deliver this?
69% of you agreed that teacher assessment is the best solution for replacing national curriculum tests. However, 51% stated that they did not feel their centre had the resources and skills to deliver teacher assessment.

QCA publishes research into the quality of test marking
|

QCA has published a report on marking quality in national curriculum tests. The report draws upon a number of studies, including an analysis of 2008 quality assurance data carried out by independent researchers. Read more...

QCA direct - QCA's online Diploma community
|
|
If you are involved in the Diploma you can now ask QCA Diploma specific questions through QCA direct, the new online community. The community enables you to ask QCA about issues related to teaching and learning of the Diploma, and a response will be provided within five working days. QCA direct will soon feature online surveys that will help QCA to shape future Diploma qualifications and guidance.Read more...

There has been a sharp rise in the number of pupils being given extra marks due to "special considerations" on the day of their GCSEs or A-levels.
Figures from England's exams watchdog show 329,119 requests were approved in 2008, compared to 255,200 in 2005. Read more...
