Fellowship (FCIEA)

Portrait of an educational assessor listening to a speaker

Fellowship is available to the most experienced and expert educational assessor.

External assessor case study

Roger is a Chief Examiner with a major awarding body and has been involved in external assessment for fifteen years. Reaching a position of authority has spurred him to join the Institute in order to be recognised as an assessment professional in his own right.

Internal assessor case study

Robert is an Assessment Coordinator working for a large secondary school in the North West. He has over 10 years experience in his current role and before that he was head of science at a neighbouring school.  Robert joined the Institute because he is interested in attending conferences and reading 'Make the Grade' so he can keep up to date with developments in assessment.  He also likes the monthly CIEAMAIL because it saves precious time in directing him to the burning issues in assessment as they happen.  Robert uses the CIEA Professional Framework to monitor assessment practices in the school and to co-ordinate the way individual subject areas prepare, conduct and feedback on assessment.

Advice for individuals involved in both internal and external assessment:

If you have both internal and external assessment experience it is recommended that you choose the above route relating to your most senior role. E.g. A Deputy Head Teacher who is also a Chief Examiner would apply via the external assessor route to Member status.
