The executive and senior management in further education colleges are currently under external and internal pressure to ensure that higher education and higher level skills training are prioritised as part of their strategic planning.

The challenges include the uncertainty of collaborative partnerships, demand-led funding arrangements, the need to increase commercial income and reacting to a rapidly evolving environment where market potential may be lower than the expectations of policy makers.
