GCSE 2010 Criteria Consultation

In 2005, QCA received a government remit to revise GCSEs to bring them up to date and improve assessment and learning. The first step for QCA is to re-develop the GCSE criteria, which are the rules that awarding bodies must use when developing their qualifications.

Revised criteria have been drafted for English subjects, mathematics and ICT and these are now open for consultation on the QCA website: http://www.qca.org.uk/qca_18259.aspx . The consultation comprises a questionnaire survey and it will be open until 30 September 2008.

The final versions of the criteria, incorporating changes from the consultation, will be available on the QCA website by the end of December. First teaching on new English, ICT and mathematics specifications will be in September 2010.
