CIEA at the Education Show 2008-03-05

Although there were large numbers of people at the event in the NEC in late February, the numbers were fewer than last year. This could be because of the timing of the event. In previous years, the event has always been held in late March. Switching the dates to late February may have had an impact upon the turn out

Nevertheless, there were still plenty of people who wished to sign up to CIEA membership.

A total of 65 new members were signed on, many of them Head Teachers and Deputy Heads.

A Local Authority Inspector from Birmingham said, "This is just the kind of thing we have been waiting for. The concept of a Chartered Assessor is one that is very exciting and could have a very positive impact on assessment, not only in schools and colleges, but throughout the assessment community generally."

"Although the numbers may have been fewer than last year, the quality of the applications remains very high indeed," said a CIEA spokesperson. "In the past, teachers and Head Teachers have felt removed from the assessment process, but now they appear to be engaging with it in a more positive and pro-active way."

There were far fewer students at the show this year, which may be accounted for by the timing of the event, but the numbers of senior managers who joined the CIEA rose significantly.
