Teacher assessment activities for foundation subjects

Teacher assessment activities are available for art and design, design and technology and history at key stages 1 to 3, and for ICT and Geography at key stages 1 and 2. This new initiative from QCA illustrates assessment as an integral part of teaching and learning across the key stages.

Teacher assessment activities aim to help teachers:

  • plan for assessment activities
  • investigate pupils' understanding and identify learning needs
  • focus support where it is needed
  • encourage pupils to develop techniques for monitoring their own progression.

What is included?

There are activity booklets for each subject at each key stage, containing a teacher's guide that explains the structure of the materials and how to use them.

All activity booklets share a common structure and contain:

  • guidance on interpreting pupil work in relation to the level descriptions
  • guidance on how to record evidence and give feedback to pupils
  • guidance on implications for planning further teaching
  • references to other relevant materials.

Simple icons show time required, ways of grouping pupils and appropriate learning levels.

Progression maps with references to the national curriculum level descriptions enable teachers to compare their pupils' progress against a common standard.
