Landmark Figures
The IEA received its one thousandth member during the first week of September.
"This is cause for celebration", said David Wright, Head of the IEA. "We had set ourselves a challenging target of 1,000 by the middle of the month. To reach this milestone at this early stage reflects the genuine interest in us from the assessment community."
Kathleen Tattersall, Chair of the IEA stated, "The Institute of Educational Assessors, which we launched in May 2006, was created to serve the needs of the assessment community and raise public awareness of the contribution of assessment to improved teaching and learning.
"We are a voluntary organisation and it is therefore all the more pleasing that we have exceeded a landmark 1000 members more quickly than we hoped. This demonstrates beyond doubt that assessors - teachers in the classroom, trainers in the work place and examiners in the qualifications system - welcome the support and encouragement of a professional body dedicated to their needs.
"As we grow and develop, we will work with our members and partners to raise the status of assessment and improve assessment practices for the benefit of learners.
"From these excellent figures, it is clear that there is a genuine need within the assessment community for just such a body to offer support, status and resource to this body of people"
